The OSS For Palestine Initiative was created out of the belief that one can be consistent, strategic, and impactful in one’s open source advocacy and anti-genocide advocacy at the same time.
While some software creators who stand firmly against genocide have chosen to release less-than-free software in hopes it may limit their complicity in evil, attempts to surgically mete out software freedoms along moral boundaries too often result in severely limiting the reach of one’s software.
OSS For Palestine’s philosophy is that Conway’s law goes both ways: just as social systems embody values which are ultimately reflected in the technical structures they produce, so too can software emanate echoes of the zeitgeist from which it formed as it circumnavigates the globe.
By releasing software under an OSS for Palestine license, we provide recipients with the irrevocable freedoms to use, modify, and redistribute our software, all while ensuring all such distribution will only serve to amplify the unflinching **demand** for the liberation of those who have been denied it for too long.
And as our software becomes unrestricted in its reach, accomplices to genocide, many of whom will be directly identified in OSS for Palestine licenses, will experience the mounting pressure to end their complicity.
Free software. **Free Palestine**
